Humminbird Fish Finder 581i HD DI Combo Review

581i HD DI Combo

581i HD DI Combo

The Humminbird 581i HD DI Combo, is also one of the new models with HD display and Down Imaging, as it’s name suggests it. Although it only features a black and white screen, 16 lvl grayscale, the images for both SwitchFire and Down Imaging, and also the mapping displays, are quite clear and accurate.

The 581i HD DI Combo has a medium size screen, 5-inch diagonal, 640×320 pixel resolution. Along with the Down Imaging option, come quite a few other very useful features. For example, this unit is equipped with Precision GPS, chartplotting and trackplotting, having the UniMap mapping package built-in. It’s also compatible with the Navionics mapping package.

It can store in its memory chip up to 2,500 waypoints, 50 routes and 50 tracks (20,000 points each).

This unit has DualBeam Plus sonar, which means you can see both the sonar returns in split screen, and also the DI returns. The Down Imaging sonar beams can be operated at two frequencies: 455 kHz launching a conical beam of 75° or 800 kHz, with a beam of 45°. So 800 kHz for a sharper but narrower view, and 455 kHz for a less sharp image, but covering a wider area.

The transducer also uses conical beams to provide data in traditional 2D format. That would be a beam of 455 kHz – 16° cone center beam, or 200 kHz for a wider 25° beam.

All in all, the 581i HD DI Combo is reliable for waters up to 600 feet deep.

571 HD DI Portable

The Humminbird 571 HD DI Portable is one of the latest models in the Humminbird 500 series. So far, it’s one of the best monochrome units with Down Imaging that you can have.

It features a 5-inch diagonal, 16 LvL Grayscale screen, 640X320 pixel resolution. Even though it’s black and white, it provides excellent, crystal-clear images, with very little noise, making it very easy to distinguish between structures, vegetation and fish.

This unit is equipped with a sensitive sonar, Dual Beam Plus, quite reliable up to 600ft. Down Imaging works great in waters up to 350ft. The transducer mounts via a suction cup so you don’t have to drill into your boat to attach it with screws. This makes it a great choice for rental boats.

Although is doesn’t feature and GPS or chartplotting features, this unit has all the fish finding options available. Therefore, you can scan the water in Fish ID mode, or you can view the SwitchFire and Down s
Imaging returns in split screen.

Hummingbird Fish Finder 596c HD Review

Humminbird 596c HD

596c HD

The Hummingbird Fish Finder 596c HD is a unit focused only on tracking fish, designed to support any angler for locating the big ones or even the bait clouds, in waters up to 1200 ft. deep.

It has a 4000 PTP power output, and it’s equipped with Dual Beam Plus sonar technology, so you can scan the volume of water under your boat with a 20°, sharper sonar beam, or with a wider, 60° beam.

This unit does not have Down Imaging or Side Imaging, nor it has any GPS, trackplotting or chartplotting compatibility. However, it does it’s fish tracking job, and depth and temperature measuring,  quite accurately. Its 5-inch wide, full-color, HD screen, with a 640×640 pixel resolution, will provide you with the best detail of what’s under your boat. The images are pretty clean, with no extra, unwanted pixelation, very bright and totally readable whether your unit is in direct sunlight or it’s dark.

The Humminbird 596c HD comes with a quick-disconnect mounting system which is great especially if you have two or more boats. There’s a “BUT” though. Depending on how long your boat is, the cable this unit comes with might not be long enough, so you might find yourself with the need to purchase extra cable. Also, especially if you’re a salt water fisherman, make sure you keep it dry, because salt water is really corrosive to the components of any electronic device.

Hummingbird Fish Finder 586c HD Review

Humminbird 586c HD

586c HD

The Hummingbird Fish Finder 586c HD is one of the best full color fish finder models that you can get, without any GPS, SI or DI features. This being said, obviously the price for it becomes quite acceptable. Even without these options, this fish finder is a very reliable device for tracking fish, observing the contour and structure of the bottom and underwater environment.

Needless to say, with the Humminbird 586c HD you will benefit from all the other fish finding basic options that an angler needs, like measuring depth, water temperature, boat speed, and obtain an estimate of the depth the fish are swimming at.

This fish finder has, as its name suggests it, a brilliant full color, high-definition display, with a 640V x 480H pixel resolution. The diagonal of the display is a bit smaller compared to most of the other fish finders in the 500 series. It’s only 4.5″ instead of 5″ but that is hardly an impediment for any angler to interpret what’s under the boat.

The Hummingbird Fish Finder 586c HD has Dual Beam Plus sonar, meaning that you can scan the volume of water under your boat in two major modes: at 200 kHz, for a more condensed view obtained by a sonic beam of 20°, and at 83 kHz, obtaining a wider view caught by a 60° sonar beam. Since it’s a Dual Beam Plus, you can have both views in split screen. It has a PTP Power Output of 2400 watts.

The Humminbird 586c HD offers great results in waters up to 1000 ft. deep. The sonar beam is sensitive enough to identify a jig down to 70 feet, and distinguish separate fish that are as close as 3 inches from one another. Even without any chartplotting or trackplotting features, this device does its fish tracking job excellently, allowing you to land as many big ones as possible.
