
This is one of the best fish finders from Humminbird at the moment, one of the new models for 2014, featuring TouchScreen technology. The Humminbird ONIX8ci SI Combo is also one of the big display fish finders, with a head unit featuring an 8.4-inch, HD full color LCD screen, with 768 x 1024 pixel resolution. Just like all the other models within the ONIX series, the screen accepts touchscreen commands like any other tablet or smartphone, such as swipe or tap screen. It also has backlight, which provides superior readability in dark or bright light conditions.
Regarding its sonar capabilities, the Humminbird ONIX8ci SI Combo, has High Definition Side Imaging and Down Imaging technology, producing crystal clear images and recording of the underwater environment, with a Side Imaging range of 240 ft. on either side of the boat, reliable for up to 150 ft. depths. Down Imaging provides quality, reliable images up to 350 ft. depths. Evidently, it also has the Dual Beam Plus sonar, meaning that it can be operated in dual mode, with a 20° / 200 kHz or 60° / 83 kHz sonic beam, providing a reliable water scan up to 1,500 ft depths. This fish finder also supports 360 Imaging technology.
Its standard wattage is 4,000 Watts PTP / 500 Watts RMS, but can be upgraded to for 8,000 Watts PTP / 1,000 Watts RMS. Its standard transducer is a Transom XNT 14 20 HDSI T.
In terms of navigational capabilities, this unit has built in Precision GPS, and the Humminbird TriFuel Cartography package. However, its also compatible with Lakemaster, Navionics Platinum, Gold and Hot Maps. Can store up to 3,000 waypoints, 200 routes and 50 tracks (20,000 points each). NMEA2000 is also included.
This fish finder is CHIRP technology compatible, but it requires the purchase of an extra CHIRP Ethernet SONAR module. This will also make the unit feasible for deepwater fishing, increasing its capability to 10,000 ft.
