Although it doesn’t have a flashy full color HD screen, the black and white 5″, 16 level greyscale, 640V x 320H display featured by the Hummingbird Fish Finder 728 is still not a bad for the recreational fisherman. Once you get used to it, it will become as reliable as a full color one. And the fish, structures or trees found on the bottom can be distinguished quite clearly on this unit’s screen.
Although a black and white, cheaper unit, this Hummingbird fish finder still has the DualBeam Plus sonar with depth penetration up to 1500 ft, allowing you to use a 20° precision beam for more accurate returns and a 60° one for a wider coverage of the bottom floor, for fish and bait fish. Has a 4000 watts PTP power output.
It’s GPS capable with the option of 50 channel GPS and trackplotting. Its memory can store up to 750 waypoints and 10 tracks (2,000 points each).
If your aim isn’t extremely clear images of the lake or sea floor, and you’re not looking for a super-color display, the Hummingbird Fish Finder 728 is not a bad choice for the price. Since you will be able to determine whether or not there are fish in the waters under you, you will certainly improve your fishing results. Like all Hummingbird depth finders it’s quite a reliable unit.
