Hummingbird Fish Finder PiranhaMax 150 Review

Humminbird PiranhaMax 150

PiranhaMax 150

The Hummingbird Fish Finder PiranhaMax 150, like all the models in the PiranhaMax series, is a small and basic fish and depth finder, design for simple fishfinding. Doesn’t have too many features, but it’s also one of the cheapest Hummingbird fish finders.

Ok, so let’s have a look at what it can do for you.

The Hummingbird Fish Finder PiranhaMax 150 doesn’t have a full color, flashy screen. Its screen is 4-inch diagonal wide, with 160 x 128 pixel resolution, and quite a basic 4 level grayscale (monochrome) display. However you can be sure that it will display the bottom correctly, pin point the fish under your boat with accuracy and also measure depth and the water temperature.

Like most fish finders from Humminbird, this unit is also equipped with the Fish ID+ mode, and when this is on, you can set the alarm to sound when it detects fish. This unit can easily distinguish between fish and other objects floating between waters or on the bottom. Each fish will be displayed on the screen along with indicators showing the fish size and the depth they’re located at.

Since it’s a basic fish finder, it’s only equipped with a single beam transducer, which operates at 200 kHz, covering a 20° area under the boat. Due to this fact, it might have a lower chance to detect the fish closer to the surface or to the transducer, but it will surely show the fish between waters and on the bottom. It’s reliable for depths of 600 feet.

All in all, this is an affordable Hummingbird fish finder, quite small and basic when it comes to the amount of features, but highly functional when it comes to locating fish.

Hummingbird Fish Finder 581i Combo Review

Humminbird 581i Combo

581i Combo

This is one of the best fish finders from Humminbird with monochromatic display. Apart from that it has quite a multitude of features which can make it quite a reliable unit.

The Hummingbird Fish Finder 581i Combo is endowed with a high-resolution 16 lvl grayscale display, 5-inch wide, 640 x 320 pixel resolution. Since this unit has a FTSN LCD display, it requires less power to operate and it’s obviously cheaper.

It’s equipped with DualBeam sonar, 200kHz / 20° and 83 kHz / 60°, with a reliability down to 800 ft depths. Has a 2000 Watts PtP power output. For a black-and-white fish finding device this unit has plenty of GPS features, which needless to say, increase its utility. Humminbird 728

Humminbird 728

Although it doesn’t have a flashy full color HD screen, the black and white 5″, 16 level greyscale, 640V x 320H display featured by the Hummingbird Fish Finder 728 is still not a bad  for the recreational fisherman. Once you get used to it, it will become as reliable as a full color one. And the fish, structures or trees found on the bottom can be distinguished quite clearly on this unit’s screen.

Although a black and white, cheaper unit, this Hummingbird fish finder still has the DualBeam Plus sonar with depth penetration up to 1500 ft, allowing you to use a 20° precision beam for more accurate returns and a 60° one for a wider coverage of the bottom floor, for fish and bait fish.
