Hummingbird Fish Finder 596c HD Review

Humminbird 596c HD

596c HD

The Hummingbird Fish Finder 596c HD is a unit focused only on tracking fish, designed to support any angler for locating the big ones or even the bait clouds, in waters up to 1200 ft. deep.

It has a 4000 PTP power output, and it’s equipped with Dual Beam Plus sonar technology, so you can scan the volume of water under your boat with a 20°, sharper sonar beam, or with a wider, 60° beam.

This unit does not have Down Imaging or Side Imaging, nor it has any GPS, trackplotting or chartplotting compatibility. However, it does it’s fish tracking job, and depth and temperature measuring,  quite accurately. Its 5-inch wide, full-color, HD screen, with a 640×640 pixel resolution, will provide you with the best detail of what’s under your boat. The images are pretty clean, with no extra, unwanted pixelation, very bright and totally readable whether your unit is in direct sunlight or it’s dark.

The Humminbird 596c HD comes with a quick-disconnect mounting system which is great especially if you have two or more boats. There’s a “BUT” though. Depending on how long your boat is, the cable this unit comes with might not be long enough, so you might find yourself with the need to purchase extra cable. Also, especially if you’re a salt water fisherman, make sure you keep it dry, because salt water is really corrosive to the components of any electronic device.

Hummingbird Fish Finder 586c HD Review

Humminbird 586c HD

586c HD

The Hummingbird Fish Finder 586c HD is one of the best full color fish finder models that you can get, without any GPS, SI or DI features. This being said, obviously the price for it becomes quite acceptable. Even without these options, this fish finder is a very reliable device for tracking fish, observing the contour and structure of the bottom and underwater environment.

Needless to say, with the Humminbird 586c HD you will benefit from all the other fish finding basic options that an angler needs, like measuring depth, water temperature, boat speed, and obtain an estimate of the depth the fish are swimming at.

This fish finder has, as its name suggests it, a brilliant full color, high-definition display, with a 640V x 480H pixel resolution. The diagonal of the display is a bit smaller compared to most of the other fish finders in the 500 series. It’s only 4.5″ instead of 5″ but that is hardly an impediment for any angler to interpret what’s under the boat.

The Hummingbird Fish Finder 586c HD has Dual Beam Plus sonar, meaning that you can scan the volume of water under your boat in two major modes: at 200 kHz, for a more condensed view obtained by a sonic beam of 20°, and at 83 kHz, obtaining a wider view caught by a 60° sonar beam. Since it’s a Dual Beam Plus, you can have both views in split screen. It has a PTP Power Output of 2400 watts.

The Humminbird 586c HD offers great results in waters up to 1000 ft. deep. The sonar beam is sensitive enough to identify a jig down to 70 feet, and distinguish separate fish that are as close as 3 inches from one another. Even without any chartplotting or trackplotting features, this device does its fish tracking job excellently, allowing you to land as many big ones as possible.

Hummingbird Fish Finder 570 Portable Review

Humminbird 570 Portable

570 Portable

The Hummingbird Fish Finder 570 Portable is quite a basic fish finder, but it’s very useful for anglers that can’t use their boat for any fishing trip.

This Humminbird fish finder doesn’t have any fancy GPS features, nor it has Down Imaging and Side Imaging. However, is quite a reliable tool for tracking fish, providing any angler with accurate returns about the bottom, fish, sunken trees, everything that passes under the boat, measuring depth and water temperature. All in all this tool will tell you about anything that you should know about the underwater environment, to improve your angling experience.

It’s equipped with a grayscale 12 level screen, 5-inch diagonal, 640V x 320H high pixel resolution. It has a Dual Beam sonar, which allows you to filter your view from a 20° more accurate beam, to a wider view, from a 60° sonar beam. Since it’s not a Dual Beam Plus sonar, unfortunately you won’t be able to observe both the 20° and 60° views in split screen. But anyway, you will be able to see where the fish are, especially if you use the fish ID option. Although this fish finder is designed to be functional for waters up to 800 ft. deep, I wouldn’t recommend it for deep water fishing. To be sure you will benefit from great results in deep waters, one of the superior Hummingbird Fish Finders is more indicated, like the 898c SI Combo, or the 998c SI Combo.

In general, you should know that the accuracy of your fish finder’s returns, depends on the water and weather conditions, boat speed and the bottom hardness.

The Hummingbird Fish Finder 570 Portable has a PTP power output of 2000 Watts. It comes along with an AGM battery that lasts for quite a few fishing trips, and its charger of course. However, even if the battery will last for quite a long while, it’s a good idea to recharge it before any fishing expedition. The price of this Humminbird fish finder also includes a portable case, a very useful accessory for a portable device like this model.

Hummingbird Fish Finder 570 DI Portable Review

Humminbird 570 DI Portable

570 DI Portable

The Hummingbird Fish Finder 570 DI Portable, is quite a flexible, proficient and afforadble unit for what it can do. Although it doesn’t feature any GPS or chartplotting options, it’s a great device for finding fish, measuring depth, speed and water temperature.

Equipped with a 12 level grayscale display, 5″ diagonal, 640V x 320H pixel resolution, this unit will provide you with an excellent view of what’s underneath the boat. Even if it’s black and white, the images in Down Imaging are pretty clear and accurate. You will understand immediately where the fish are in relation to the boat, and make a good idea where to throw your lines. Plus, you can observe the bottom and the underwater environment in split screen, observing both the Switchfire and Down Imaging returns on your screen.

The sonar capability is 800/455 kHz for the Down Imaging option, and 455/200 kHz for the normal down beam sonar. In other words you can operate your Humminbird 570 DI Portable at two frequencies for Down Imaging: at 455 kHz to cover a wider area, with a 75° beam, or at 800 kHz, for a more accurate return caught by a 45° beam. The transducer of the 570 DI portable also uses two conical beams for 2D traditional imaging. With the 200 kHz you will obtain a view in a 25° beam and with the 455 kHz, a more focused image in a 16° beam.

This Humminbird unit has a 4000 Watts power PTP power output. It’s designed to be reliable for depths up to 500 feet in normal imaging. As when it comes to Down Imaging, you will benefit from reliable returns in waters up to 250 ft. deep.

The package contains a portable case and an AGM battery with its charger.

All in all, this is one of the best portable fish finders from Humminbird. It’s great to have especially if you’re not using your own boat on every fishing trip. You can take it along and install it quickly on your friend’s boat or on a rental boat, without drilling holes in it. The only downside about it is that sometimes the screen might be difficult to read in direct sunlight. In a case like this you should use something to create a bit of shade for the screen.
